What is media representation?

Media representation -

Representation refers to the construction in any medium (especially the mass media) of aspects of ‘reality’ such as people, places, objects, events, cultural identities and other abstract concepts. Such representations may be in speech or writing as well as still or moving pictures. - Aber

My definition -

The way media portrays reality hoping to gain a large reaction from the audience. Seeing a story and presenting it on a larger scale to get more of a reaction out of it, for example, A famous actor/actress has been interviewed and they say something small about another actor/actress but then media manipulates/changes what was said to then have a much bigger story they can use, on which a larger reaction will happen.

Resources I found helpful

The three resources I found most helpful to me from BeaverwoodMediaBlog:

1. 'Reflection's on what I've learnt' - I found this post to be most helpful towards me as it explained with thorough detail about how I should structure my reflection and what should be included within it.

2. 'Guardian Story' - Very similar to the answer above, This post was very helpful at showing me how I should present my reply to the article and what I should include in my reply.

3. 'Your AS Media Bridging Unit' - This post helped me understand what I will be expecting from taking AS Media. All the information was very helpful to me.
